Black Cod Steaks

What do you do with fresh frozen black cod steaks?  We steam it!  The recipe is for 4 – 7 oz steaks/fillets.  Can be done with different types of fish and you will have plenty of sauce leftover 😋

Ingredients

  • 7oz Piece Black Cod Fillet x 4
  • 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 Cup Unseasoned Rice Vinegar
  • 1.5 Tbsp Minced Ginger
  • 1.5 Tbsp Chopped Green Onion
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
  • 1 Large Minced Garlic Clove
  • 1/4 Cup Hoisin Sauce
  • 2-1/4 Tsp Sambal or and chili paste
  • 1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F
 
2. Whisk together 1/2 cup of soy sauce, 1/4 cup of unseasoned rice vinegar, 1.5 tbsp of minced ginger, 1.5 tbsp of chopped green onion, 1 tbsp of honey, and 1 large minced garlic clove
 
3. In a separate bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of hoisin sauce and 2.25 tsp of sambal or any chili paste.  
 
4. Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in an ovenproof skillet on medium-high heat.  Cook the fish skin side up, cook approximately 2-3 minutes, turn over, spoon hoisin mixture over the fish
 
5. Transfer skillet with the fish in it to the oven and bake until fish is opaque in the centre.  Approximately 5 minutes and will depend on the thickness of your fish
 
6. Spoon some of the sauce prepared in step 2 over the fish and serve with rice  and a side of greens!  We enjoy garlic sauteed bok choy
